  I've owned an AJC hatchet since I was 15 years old and am now 56. I've been a roofing contractor since 1979 and I'll tell you, anyone that doesn't have an AJC hatchet, or a slew of different ones for different needs in hammering strength, is not really a roofer. Some strangers with a nail gun may color a roof quickly with shingles but they'll blow off and leak. Hand nailing these thin asphalt shingles of today is the only way. Momentum counter sinks the nail. It is not over driven. A roofing hatchet only drives a nail flush. Plus they make a whole line of stuff for roofers like nail strippers, magnets on wheels and other stuff only a roofer, or a grandparent with nails in the yard, could love.
